    Governor Carnahan created this service through an executive order to assist Missouri citizens in making more informed healthcare and daycare choices for family members. This webpage provides general information and links about the various services available to the public to check the backgrounds of caregivers that serve children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

    The State of Missouri, through various departments, offers several services that may provide background information on caregivers, including:

    At website, these are all links: State criminal background checks, conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol;
    Child abuse/neglect records, maintained by the Division of Family Services;
    Family Foster Care Licensing records, maintained by the Division of Family Services;
    The Employee Disqualification List, maintained by the Division of Aging;
    The Disqualified Registry, maintained by the Department of Mental Health;
    Child Day Care licensing records, maintained by the Department of Health.

This service is intended to provide informati on to help employers and families make informed decisions when hiring employees to work with children or the elderly or when placing individuals in a child-care or elder-care setting.
